What's in a Name?

What's in a name? Where does your name come from? I am always curious as to where all the different names i encounter come from. Are they personal? Random?

My name as well as that of 3 of my mules comes from my favorite book Dune.

Stilgar was a Fremen leader
Idaho was a Swordmaster
Darwi was a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother
Scytale was a leader of the Bene Tleilaxu

Tebruegge is my last name

Why did you call yourself what you did?

Hmmmm. Let's see if i can remember.

At one time I would create a new name for each game I played. I had such as Lantok and Mercalok. I choose names based off of certain letters or sounds within the name. I like letters such as K, Z, Y, Q, V.

Back when I started playing Age of Empires II I came up with the name Ikonic. It sort of just stuck then. I'd use Ikonic in various games and websites and so forth. I liked the name and it stuck to me better than any other I'd created. I wanted to be a constant. I wanted to have a name that could cross worlds, and Ikonic was it.

As to my mules names....

Icinoki. I'd used it previously for forum accounts and a website (www.icinoki.com) and came up with it by reversing the letters in Ikonic and adding an I.

Vicassina. Made up on the spot. Liked the letter V. Have used other forms of names with Vic in them. Sounded cool.

Xynia. Incorporates letters X and Y and the 'ia' sound. Also made up on the spot. Sounds cool. Possibly one that I'll use for other characters on other games one day. Pronounced zi*nah.

Ayzxal. Initially this mule was created as a temp mule to quest NIN spells and sell for gil. I decided to toss together more of the letters that I like and such used Y, Z, X, and A. It's pronounced Aye*zhal if it's even pronounced at all. Often times it has no pronunciation. Eventually I came to use it quite often to sell goods in Jeuno, but by that time was getting fed up with the name and the fact that this latest version was created as a Galka so I eventually created another Jeuno mule Ayka.

Ayka. This mule was created as a replacement to Ayzxal both to give a more permanent name and to create a non-Galka Jeuno mule. As always, it has a Y and K in it because I like the sounds and A just happens to be my favorite vowel. It's pronounced ik*ah.

I never use a name that is from another source. I like creating my own. Partly for creativity, partly so I'm not one of the masses.

A rose by any other name, would smell just as sweet eh?

Wow that sounds queer. Its a qoute an easy one, read a book. Well my name and mules are simple.

Wills - My nickname IRL, every one calls me Wills.

Hailey - My Cousins name.

Hamish - A good old Scottish name. Pronounced Hay-mish.

Saven - The name of my old Diablo II Character.

Pin - My diablos character. Nothing here but saw a pin in the room and was like eh why not.

My name dates back to 5th grade when every called me by my last name Gasior (pronounced gazer) becuase they thought it sounded cool. Then in 7th grade someone called me Stargazer. So then I decided to be Stargasior. Get it?

back on EQ i had a comp generated name... man i dont even remeber how that is spelled ne more.. Qaewenye i believe..

i wanted Gwen (but it was taken) so i used the "Q" so its now Qwen lol

Markoraz=This was the name of my first character on Everquest

Alir is a name I made up my self, I used it long long time ago back when I played D@D. I also used her name in a fledgling fantasy novel i wrote in college.

i started this game some where when Lord of the Ring is showing, searched the web, and found the website of Hobbies naming:-http://www.chriswetherell.com/hobbit/

i wanted a Tarutaru right from the start, both Hobbies and Tarus are cute, so i put in my name, last name "Lim", first name "Chengzu", and "Mungo Chubb-Baggins of Pincup" came up.

i had wanted to change it to mango, but others may think i'm a girl soi kept it as Mungo ;D

Well my name has no cool history ot crap, but i have used it since i started playing games when i was like 10, it has alwayz been sl;ayerzs, even in hockey, diablo, D2, EQ, even that crappy runescape game lol, and always in any FF

Josk: Hume M
A relative of mine, I think my grandma's brother in law maybe or something, anyway he came over from the old country when he was a kid and never had a lot of education, so on cards for christmas and b-days he'd always spell my name differently, one of them was Joskouva, I started using it for games (Ceaser AOEII & Diablo)

I shortened it to Josk for FFXI so it'd be easier for ppl to spell & send tells & stuff

Mossflower: Mithra
I named her from one of the Brian Jacques' Redwall books, kind of a girly name & it seemed to fit with Windy's environment.

Soldataru: Taru M
This name started out as just Soldat, from the "Soldats" from Noir (an anime show that i'm watching right now and really liking.) I added the taru at the end just on a whim. Only after I ran around in Sandy for a while looking at the name hanging over my head did I realise ppl are prolly gonna read it as "Sold a taru" so it's prolly gonna get some funny looks, but oh well.

Then mules names are Konti (FLCL's tv robot) and Animus (just a word i like ^^)

And of course ma main stay on multiple platforms and mmorpgs, Antioc, which is a mispelling of a greek month and a holy hand grenade from a certain monty python movie[/glow] ;D
