Ok i have a serious pop-up problem and its REALLY pissing me off. Its getting to the point where if i just turn my pc on and let it sit for like min. alone, ill come back and have like 20 different pop-ups on it. Also i cant go a night w/out d/cin from the game because full screen mode was lost due to pop-ups.
Also my pc is sloooow as hell. It takes me about 5 hrs to do a simple operation. Trying to start up POL is a biotch.
Does ne1 have ne suggestions on how to keep this under control? I dont care if its free or will cost me something, im just getting really fucking pissed!!! thnx
*While typing this post, i had 7 pop-ups*

You probably have adware on your computer. I recommend Adaware and Spybot. They search your computer for spyware/adware. I hope it helps. You can also try any number of spam pop-up blockers for when you surf the net.

The last time i upgraded msn messenger i got a pop up blocker with it. It works well stopping all the pop ups i get on AK. I also have Adaware.

I'd recomend installing and running Adaware and stuff like Star said, once you're computer is cleaned up with that I'd recomend useing Firefox as your browser. That really cut down on the amount of spywear I get and it has a built in popup blocker for websites.

It may be time to reinstall the whole system. It's really not that bad of a deal to do so, but then again I generally do so every 6 months.
Otherwise get Firefox. Use it. Use only it. Get the add-ons for it. You can block pop-ups, software installation, and even flash. It's great. I use it. It solves all my problems. Ok, well it's not quite that good, but I'm pleased with it.

I agree with all what was said above. Best way to be sure is do like Ik said & back up everything you need, wipe it and reinstall. Kind of a pain in the ass to do, I know I don't do it as often as I should but it really does make a difference, especially if there's a pesky bug that doesn't want to let the scanning tools remove it. Also, anti-virus & firewall are good to have I use norton, which works pretty good for me... sometimes... as far as adware removers here's my list: Ad-Awarewww.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/Works like an antivirus program, but for adware. Spywareblasterwww.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.htmlDoesn't scan/remove anything, basically adds a list of known malicious things to your browser's "no" list so that they don't get on your machine in the first place. Spybot Search & Destroywww.safer-networking.org/en/download/Does the same as both of the above, along with some other neat tools, like a list of all the programs that start up with your pc, and the option to disable/remove some of them. www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htmThis website that lists what most of those programs are by their name so when you pull up task manager and see that program xyzblmegh.exe is using 90% of your processer, you can actually find out what that program is for & whether you need it. I think on that site they hawk their software everywhere & idk about that I never really looked into what they're selling just referenced the info. Firefoxwww.mozilla.org/products/firefox/I <3 firefox For the sites that require IE (grrr), I have the google toolbar installed on my internet explorer, which seems to help with the popups as well. Hope your pc is fighting fit again soon.

Heya^^ Yea I'm kinda/sorta still around I probably check the message board more often than I actually log into the game. I started back at school this summer gonna go for my Bachelor's Degree in comp sci. & pretty much going to work in all the time in between so I only have time to come on every once in a while & farm a couple of late night hours here & there. Plus I've been splitting that time between 2 shells so pretty much everybody in both of them is like "who'se josk?". This board is set as my home page at work though so usually when I'm not working thru lunch I'm reading on here. Anyway, not to hijack Sic's thread with my personal life story ;D but that's where I've been hopefully between semesters there'll be a lil break when I can spend some more time playing. Until then i'll be keeping an eye on here.

I'm also somewhat of a Comp. Sci. Major. I'm also planning on getting a degree or minor in Business assuming I ever go back to get a degree at all. Currently I own a defunct computer business and have a crapload of parts to get rid of still. I have 4 computers that are on 24/7 and I use daily. There's another 5 set up on the network, but not in use. If anyone needs/wants computer parts let me know; I have quite a few (especially 17" monitors).
