Star's Official School Update Thread

As some of you might know, I will be leaving Japan soon after 3 wonderful years. I will be out of the US Air Force in July and will continue my Japanese Studies (and minor in Linguists or even double major) at the University of Hawaii at Hilo (on the big island). Last week my family and I went to Hilo for a week to see how it is and to find a place to live before we move there in July. We didn't pick an apartment, but we did find a realtor that will rent to us. After that we looked around Hawaii Island:

If any of you were wondering what I will do after school, I plan to come back to Japan to be a translator/interpreter.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to tell you that I started school today at the Univeristy of Hawaii at Hilo. The family and I are doing fine except we still don't have our stuff yet from Japan. It should come in a week or two. I should graduate with a B.A. in Japanese Studies in 2 1/2 years.

I'll be transferring to Hilo in 2 years to go into the Linguistics program ^.^

Wow he got big fast. Wow. Star, you're in the land of my ancestors now. Ppl don't know a lot about Hawaii. It's our fault, really.. we don't do anything to put ourselves out their information-wise. Have you heard about the major war going on with Alaska? You know how the British sent all their criminals to Australia? We did that but we sent them north to freeze and die, instead they thrived. ... now, to rectify the situation, every 25 years, our top five fighters meet their top five to duel to the death on an offshore oil rig, where it's legal. You never heard of that? ... of course you haven't, I made the whole thing up. you don't know anything about Hawaii. There's still dinosaurs there. (my brother's stand up material - I'd show you the video but he took it down to post a better one.)

Damn.. once I move, I'm coming back online. See you in 6 months or less.

Here are the classes I will take next semester (Fall 2009):

JPNS 301 Third Year Japanese
POLS 353 Politics of Japan
ANTH 356 Japan (I don't know what it will cover besides something about present day Japan)
JPNS 382 Gender and Minorities in Japan (ONLINE)
HIST 314 Japanese HIstory III 1890-Present
ENG 215 Writing for Humanities and Social Science

This semester (Spring 2009) ends on May 8th and then finals week after that. I have two short papers (3-5 pages) to complete and two 5min presentations. Not too bad. I finished a 11 page history paper last week. I think only two classes will have a final exam.

I'm pondering a return to FFXI over the summer. The wife has final say on that though.

I'm waiting impatiently for my grades.

JPNS 202 Intermediate Japanese II 'A-'

LING 102 Introduction to Linguistics ***

MATH 100 Survey Of Math 'A'

I've talked to my computer science teacher and he said I will get an A, but he has not submitted the grade yet to the school. I'm not sure if my Linguists grade will be an A or B.

So, I will either get my first ever 4.0 or I will get my first ever 3.8. The best I have ever done before this was in middle school when I got a 3.5. I had a 2.8 throughout high school.
