Tornado Damage (6-11-08)

Last night tornados hit my hometown (Chapman, 30 minutes west of me) and my current town (Manhattan, KS). Here's a few pictures that I grabbed from a few websites.

Chapman is estimated to have from 50-80% damage. K-State supposedly had over $20 Million worth of damage.

Damaged vehicles removed
Crews work to remove one of several damaged vehicles from K-State's campus.

An apartment complex adjacent to the damaged Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity has roof damaged.

A tree falls on traffic light between Ahearn Fieldhouse and Durland Hall.

Many large trees across K-State's campus are uprooted and damaged. These are located in the path at Claflin and Mid-Campus Drive.

Anderson
This picture was taken on Anderson just outside of a middle school.


Devastation
Miller Ranch - Manhattan


Extensive damge to Manhattan
Little Apple Toyota, Midas and True Value take brunt of Manhattan's tornado. Cars flipped and building severly damaged.

A True Value hardware store on the west side of Manhattan is destroyed by tornado.

Chapman was said to have an EF3 Tornado and Manhattan an EF4.

It's now estimated that Chapman had around $70 Million worth of damage and that 60% of it is gone.

I'm so glad in the face of all this devestation that you are safe Ikonic ::Huggles:: I hope your family is safe also. I will offer well wishes and prayer for your area.

Only one person injured who I know and he's in critical condition. He's the janitor at the elementary/middle school and lost an arm and an eye. He was helping people get to safety at the time.

Other person who is dead was a 21-year old girl who was outside watching it as it happened. From what I've heard all of my family living in the area is fine and none of them had any real damage done.

Unfortunately, my church is probably totaled and if insurance isn't good enough it might not be fixed/rebuilt. My high school, middle school, and elementary school buildings all were severely damaged.
