My heart stings with the need for vengance! ... here's the story. Me, Crumb, and Val went there think'n there wasn't much to it.. whm, blm, and war/nin. We got in, spent about 2-3 min buff'n up, food, w/e.. we thought if we split up, the Stonega II cast by the lead beetle would be less effective. This was true to some extent, however, anyone that got too far away from me was out of reach of my cure spells as well. I made that mistake with Crumb and it wasn't pretty. So it was me and Val.. I had every decent piece of armor that I could to combat against earth spells and the stonega II w/ bar-stone protection was doing between 25-60 dmg to me.. it was kill'n Val. We didn't quite think it through now that I reflect.. War/Nin w/ no back up voke... We really need a buff paladin to come in and tank it.. w/o bar-stone Stonega II did 200+ dmg to me and over 300+ to Val.

There's two Beetles. One is melee and the other a caster.. we the first one to sleep. The second is all about casting Stonega II like it's its job. Bar-stone helps but you really need as much earth gear as possible. With everything on including my bar-stone I had 60+ against Earth. sounds nuts right?

It wasn't completely hopeless though. Val was mess'n up the casting beetle and my bind held the other one for about a good 40 seconds at least. Unfortunately, the DD beetle woke up and shrugged off bind and kicked my ass until stonega II killed me and Val. but the main beetle was at less than half health from mainly Val wail'n on it. Had I kept Crumb alive enough to get more than 2 spells off, his spells would have done better against the physical defence and prolly killed it. then at the point, I could heal Val while he voked the second one.. tanked and nuked.. done deal.

So... anyone else want to try? We need a skilled BLM and PLD. I don't think anything else will work well enough as this.

Hmm, I wonder if you can sleep the two and aspir the one that does the casting until mp is almost gone. Then kill him and keep the melee asleep until he is dead then move to the other. Maybe a blm/whm, drk/war (drk/blm or rdm/blm), war/nin.

Oh well, just a thought maybe it will help.

The main job that comes to my mind for this one is BST. Having a BST charm one and kill the other or close to kill it would put both of the mobs in very low HP and then they would be easy to finish off.

I was thinking of that too since I read that a few bcnm battles have mobs than can be controlled.. but I didn't read anywhere that either of these beetles can be tamed.. and if they can't then it would turn out ugly I think. Any BST interested?

If only my BST was lvl 30+ and I hadn't sold all my gear. I'd say to do it with PLD/WAR, BLM/WHM, BLM/WHM or you could try it with BST/WAR, BLM/WHM, BLM/WHM (or another DD). According to AK (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?fquest=407) the main strategy involves sleeping one of the beetles and first killing the one, then the slept one. Reason for 2 BLMs is to sleep it again since it will most likely wake up before the first beetle is dead.
