This may be common knowledge, but I just learned it so I thought I'd share.
I was talking to the SE people today because I need to move my HD to a different ps2 (my cd drive started scratching discs a while back & i'm tired of switching ps2s to play ffxi) & I was trying to figure out what all information I would lose in the process to decide whether it would be worth it.
I'd been dreading rebuilding my macros 'cause I've heard quite a few people complaining about having to do that. As it turns out, you can apparently save them and transfer them with a memory card.
SE: You will [lose] you[r] data stored in your File Manager, Messages received from Friends List, Macros and Markers, screenshots and the function of automatically saving your password to your system (which can be set back after logging back in)
Josk: can i transfer it with a memory card or is that not possible?
SE: You will only be able to do that with your macros and markers
SE: you can save your macros and markers on the PS2 version by pressing the L1 + L3 at the character selection screen. If you have a keyboard press Shift+Alt+Ctrl+(B), then use the directional buttons or arrow keys to choose a slot to save to.
SE: To load a set of macros and markers, press R1+R3 or Shift+Alt+Ctrl+(R)esume and use the directional buttons or arrow keys to choose a slot to load. Press R2+L2+R3+L3 or Shift+Alt+Ctrl+(D)elete to delete a set of macros and markers for a character. Macros and markers saved in this manner are saved to the HDD.
Josk: are they saved in the same folder with the other ffxi stuff?
SE: I do believe so
I did this, and it doesn't look like there's any extra files showing on the HDD, but I suspect that they may be in the file called "your saves" under a folder of the same name... Hopefully ;D I'll post an update on whether it worked after I make the transfer.
So maybe that was common knowledge and I just forgot about it, but I thought I'd post it up here to save anybody else who didn't know the time and headache.
