OK, as someone who has farmed this NM a little, along with Nejie (who knows all about the horror stories) there are some things I'd like everyone to know before you do a run. Bear in mind even with knowing how to get there and everything it's a pretty long run from the staging point to the ???. Bring Sprinters shoes if you can, they help a lot. Also due to running/farming/fighting NM, try to set aside a few hours minimum for this. If you wondered why these things are expensive its because its a pain in the ass to farm.
- Jobs/Minimum group members:
- You'll want a minimum of 3 ppl
- Best job combos are usually NINx2 + RDM or WHM
or NIN+THF+RDM or WHM
- Bring extra Reraise items, you might eat a lof of death doing this.
-Getting to the pop:
- There are 2 ways to get to the camp that I know of. Neither is exactly easy, but one requires at least 6 ppl to get through a gate. I would avoid that path unless you have a large group.
- Some of the Trolls in Halvung are True Sight mobs. They won't be Impossible to Guage so be careful when getting to ???. Best way IMO is to have a NIN or THF do a sac run to the camp, NIN at nighttime with AF boots on should be able to make it the whole way and then be raised easily. Gets everyone there safely and avoids larger and longer times due to aggro, fighting, wiping and raising.
- TS trolls are: Troll Artilleryman, Combatant, Curaisser, Grenadier, Machinist, Scrimer, Targeteer. It's a lot of them so be careful. If I remember, most of the time the TS ones will be mixed with regular sight, they will all link, so consider eating a sac raise especially if you have a WHM, its worth the small loss over the headache.
- Mytrhil Mouth Monamaq will not aggro, nor will his Troll Mythril Guards helpers. You can walk right by them to get to the lanterns by the bridge that drop the pop items. The other trolls in the room will aggro. The pup is a pain in the ass, Shash and I duo'd the troll and pet, can do it but its not fun. Try not to aggro them when pulling bombs. Fight in area where NM gob is, like right behind him.
On Mount Zhayolm follow my numbers from 1 on map. Requires going through gates of halvung which you need key item for.
Follow my path to BB, it may look like there is an easier way but this is it. Try to get familiar with the path before attempting a sac run.
- Farming: There are 4 bombs that drop Smoky Flask. The 2 bombs by his spawn are ON the bridge and at the top drop pops, the one by his ??? does not iirc. The ones in the tunnel do not, just invis by them. In Mythril Mouth's room the 2 on the bridge and right past it drop pops. Careful not to aggro trolls. NM in room is non aggro remember, you can fight right behind him for a safe area.
- one way to test if they drop Smoky Flasks is if they grow in size when fighting them. If they do they drop iirc.
-The Friar's Lanters are blm/rdm mobs as is BB. The lanterns will cast firaga 3! Keep them silenced, para etc to avoid this unless you have a stunner. They check VT to a 75 i think. Also be ready to erase, thier burn effect is nasty, like 20hp/tick i think.
- The Fight: Read the wiki! He cannot be stunned! He hits very hard and fast enough. It is essential to keep full enfeebles on him as he does not miss often. Due to this there are some things to keep in mind when fighting.
- Fight him on the bridge next to the ??? after you've cleared the friar lantern that pops there. FIght him in the middle of the bridge and have both tanks on either side so they can run off the bridge when he casts Firaga's.
- Regardless of tank combination nin/nin nin/thf etc. you do not want to control hate entirely. Be prepared to bounce it. This NM likes to cast Firaga 3 at bad times. When he does this this whoever has hate needs to run away from the other tank immediately. You are going to eat the spell. The point is not to wipe the other tanks shadows. As soon as the spell begins casting, tank with hate runs away, the other tank needs to get hate so it doesn't attack the tank that jsut got hit. If 2x NIN/WAR, then it's ok to voke, but you shouldn't voke continuously so the other guy can snatch hate when he needs to. If using THF+NIN combo thf can use accomplice or the other hate stealing move but you have to do it fast so the NIN can clear you from spell range.
- DO NOT use high dmg weapon skills to try to get hate ot to try to kill him quicky. Don't swap in weapon skill gear even. NIN use Blade:Retsu only. It will para the NM if not already enfeebled and does some dmg but won't do enough to make him grow. THF i'm sorry but I don't know which WS to use, anything low dmg, NO SATA stuff to increase it. Normal SA on a regluar attack to generate more hate should be fine. IF you make this NM grow he hits extremelty hard, attacks faster and will own you. Shash and I tanked him at his largest size because we figured doing Blade:jins for a faster kill was best. He then hit us for 600+ non-critical >.>
- Slow and easy is the best way to kill, be careful and ready for the aga's. Be ready to erase after his burn move, its really bad DoT.
- NIN with capped ninjitsu (i also use magic accuracy ring) should be able to enfeeble him fairly easily. A RDM with capped enfeebling merits and AF body should have no difficulty enfeebling him. I have not tested WHM, but with /SCH should be fairly easy to enfeeble iwith some extra gear.
