Hey gang, seeing as how my WHM career will be beginning shortly, I was wondering if people could help me out a little bit by giving me a list of the basic macros that I will need in order to effectively WHM in the level 10 to 20 range. Please don't hold back any of them because you would consider them too basic, I need to know everything that I will need because I definitely do not know anything now. Also, any tips that you might have would be much appreciated as well.

List of important spells lvls 1-30: 1: Cure (bread and butter, use it often) 3: Dia (enfeebling, best to use this instead of Bio on hard shells like crabs and beetles) 4: Paralyze (enfeebling, use this on every mob at the start of the fight) 5: Banish (use it on ghost-type mobs at the start, it lowers their defense) 6: Poisona 7: Protectra 9: Paralyna 9: Barwatera (best to use before fighting crabs, reapply as it falls) 11: Cure II 13: Slow (enfeebling, use this on every mob at the start of the fight) 13: Baraera (best to use when fighting flies) 14: Blindna 15: Silence (enfeebling, use this on every casting mob at the start of the fight) 15: Banishga (rarely used) 16: Curaga (try to only use this in emergencies or between fights as it will give you total hate. This costs 60mp, but does the same as a Cure II to everyone within range.) 17: Barfira (when fighting goblins use this) 18: Shellra 18: Diaga (most times use Dia, but if fighting a NIN-type mob this is good to take away all their shadows at once. Be careful of nearby mobs as it will hit them too.) 19: Silena (very important to have with a NIN tank) 19: Blink (mostly for solo, you should almost never use this in an xp pt) 20: Sneak 21: Regen (This spell is godly. It has a moderatly high cast time, but is very effective. Regen costs 15 MP, but restores 125 HP. That is 35 more HP than Cure II restores when you are at Cure II cap and for 6 less MP. Use this on tanks almost always and it's very good for pullers and other melee who take some DMG, but aren't taking it all the time.) 21: Cure III 25: Invisible 25: Raise (Once you get this spell be ready for many Raise requests whether you are in a pt or not.) 27: Protectra II 28: Stoneskin (mainly a solo spell) 29: Cursna (this comes in useful when fighting ghosts) 30: Banish II
Macros: Whan making a macro use the following format: /ma "Spell Name" <t>
If a spell is the first tier (i.e. Cure I, Banish I, ....) you do not need to use the " I" part of it in the macro. Ex: Cure I = /ma Cure <t>
Also, if the spell is only one word quotes are not needed around the spell name. Spells are case-sensitive, so /ma Cure <t> will work, but /ma cure <t> will not.
For the most part these spells are a Waste of Time: Aquaveil Barstonra Barsleepra Barpoisonra Barparalyzra Deodorize (very very rarely used) Barblindra Barblizzara Barsilencera Barthundra
Notes:
- Try to focus on using many lower-lvl Cure spells. When possible use 2 Cure I instead of 1 Cure II. Not only is this more MP efficient, but it also will help keep your hate lvl down. Most times when you get a new lvl of Cure spell you will not be at the cap for it and thusly will actually waste MP using it.
- When you get Regen use it like a god. Regen is one of the most MP effecient spells and will help you both conserve MP and keep a lower hate lvl.
- Bar* spells are useful for lowering DMG take from certain mob abilities. For instance barfira will help reduce the DMG taken from gobbie bombs.
- Besides healing your job is also to enfeeble, enhance, and status removal. When limited on MP always go for healing first.
- Slow and Paralyze are very important enfeebling spells and should be cast on every mob. In the same way Silence should be cast on every casting type mob (NIN, BRD, BLM, SMN, WHM, ....).
- As an Elvaan focus on MP over MND. You will need some MND to reach the cap, but you also lack MP compared to other races. Do not neglect your RSE when you get to that lvl as some of them are very good (For example, I still use RSE Feet at 50.)
- Be ready with status removals. Spells like Paralyna, Silena, Blindna, and Poisona. These are most important for the tank and do not always need to be cast on melee if you are limited on MP.
- Curaga can be cast on another pt member and it will hit all pt members within its range based on who it is cast on. In other words you can do /ma Curaga <t> (where <t> is the tank or another melee) and it will hit all the melee withing range of the target. This is useful for later lvls when an AoE spell is used and a Curaga won't be enough to take hate.
If you've any other questions feel free to ask.

To all levels, WHM needs +MP/refresh/-Enmity/+Haste gears regardless of RACE.
Lv10-20 is talking about 10- hours in Dune, not worth to invest too much on gears, I suggest to use +MP food to fix it. Never bother MND as a WHM. Let your RDM do his job. I only ask my RDM to let me cast Dia when I have mood to skill up enfeeble magic.
For Lv10-20... => Cure 1, Cure 2 => Barfira (Gobs), Baraera (Flies), Barwatera (Fishes) => -na spells => Dia, it is a kind of fast cast spell. I suggest to use "/ma Dia <stnpc>"
Regen is Lv21... Most ppl said "Regen is good..." but how to use it appropriately!? To my experience, a WHM should have his/her own CURE priority list: 1. TANK (TOP: cure and worth to over-cure), 2. DD (MEDIUM: cure/regen but won't over-cure), 3. MP castor (LOW: only cure them when they are "red" and has hate), 4. DRK who loves to spam Souleater+WS (NO priority) Setup your own cure priority list and understand what you gonna fight, whm is so easy...
enjoy~

I always just kept macros for all the spells I got. When I had more spells than macro slots, I started prioritizing, but up to level 20 you shouldn't have too much of a problem with it.
I kept cures on one macro set (Ctrl, I think) and enfeebles on the other (Alt). I also made a macro for benediction and divine seal and kept them in the 9 and 10 slots. I usually forgot about Divine Seal, but in a pinch divine seal + curaga = benediction ==> lots of hate, so be careful.
Also, the F1-F6 keys are very useful for targeting parties members in need of healing.
The only Bar- spell I really liked was barsleepra for fighting mandies, but you won't have to worry about that much. Poisona was very useful in the dunes. Banish is more like an afterthought if you've so good at WHM that you have nothing else to do with your time.
Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

How do I use the F1-F6 keys as a means to target my party members? I remember hearing of such a thing before, but I have never used it myself. It seems like the easiest way to target my party members, rather than tabbing and shift-tabbing, but like I said, I don't know how it works exactly. Thanks.

Each key corresponds with one member of your party depending on how they are listed on your screen. Example, if your party list looked like this
Valhallodin (you're always first) MikSheri Santa RichardDreyfus Dracula GeddyLee
Then hitting F1 targets you, hitting F2 targets Miksheri, F3 targets Santa, F4 targets RichardDreyfus, F5 targets Dracula, and F6 targets GeddyLee. You just have to make sure you're not locked onto any particular target (like the mob). It's as simple as that.
And just to clarify, the list I'm referring to is the one that you see at the bottom right of your screen with everyone's HP/MP and names.
