Casinos?

I'm curious as to the rest of your opinions on casinos. Personally I don't care for them and think people in the LS should not run them. What are your opinions on the matter?

I think that if there are people "Stupid" (notice the quote marks) enough to do bet their hard earned gil gambaling there is no reason for someone else not to cash in on anothers "Stupidy" (Quote marks again woo)

well heres the thing .....

i need cash ....kinda hard to get by in the game without it....I dont have the ability to play as much as some ppl do.... plain and simple.....

i just started a casino the other day to see how it worked and well to my suprize it worked great ....i started with 6k and made the max bet 3k and offered a double if you won ....if the first bet was 3k and i lost my money i wouldnt have continued ......

but i won ....and kept winning ...yes i had to dish out some cash but hey you have to lose some to win some. the key to a casino is honesty if the casino is honest then its all good but if someone wins and the owner doesnt pay out then there is a problem.

i know they can be annoying and sometimes pesky but if done in the right areas can be harmless, if you are in a main area where ppl shop for items and do business...well to me this is not a good place its very bothersome....so in my case i use the port of jeuno.... lots of trafiic with ppl coming and going all the time ....not really stopping there because they have other business to do like shop at the AH and such ....but ppl really just pass thru the port. this to me would be an ideal area for Casinos.

Secondly if you really dont like casinos then Square has offered the ability to do whats called "Blist" or black list....now this is not everyones aim i am sure to become blacklisted but its there as a tool to remove the probelm. I have chatted with a GM about the issue and as far as it stands right now Casino's are legal and accepted as part of the FFXI experience.

As far as regulating ppl in the shell to not have Casinos I feel is unfair. not because i already do it but its just not right. I pay the same money to play this game as the next guy, if having a casino makes it more enjoyable to me, i shouldnt be told i cant do it because i am a part of this shell. i would hope that i could be accepted for the person i am and not looked down on because i have a casino. i still do all the things i have done b4 except now i have a casino, i still support the shell and all we do and uphold the virtues of the collective shell, and will continue to do so. i would hope you read this and maybe see a new side of the casino world.

the besy way to put it in a nut shell......ppl out there exploit there ability to get the items i need by charging outragious prices in the AH, i exploit my ability to take there cash by having a casino..... i mean christ i can get a lvl 56 scroll for 9k at jeuno but a lvl 36 scroll costs me anywhere from 20k-100k....i would think the higher lvl item would cost more

Anyway, in closing i would hope that i have made a valid point and not typed all this for nothing....really casinos are harmless if you like me any less because i have one, well then i apologize for offending you, i guess i need to evaluate our friendship if that is the case and i hold you all as dear friends ....regaurdless of what you choose to do in the game... this is my extended family and i like to spend some of my time with you when i have it .....

Part of what I'm asking is do we want to be known for this? If we are wanting to keep the LS growing and working strong we have to uphold certain rules. So far we only have 4 basic rules that have worked well for us, but I'm wondering if we need to add a 5th.

Many people get /blist'd immediately after they announce that they are running a casino. Personally I also /blist them. It will be much more difficult for our LS to grow and get help if the members are /blist'd.

While I personally don't care for casinos in any shape or form, what I'm really wondering is how much is running one hurting our LS? Is it something that we need to seriously consider not allowing members to do?

I really don't care if someone on the LS wants to run a casino. It is their character, they can do with it what they will. It isn't my job to tell people what they can and cannot do.

I think if people are willing to spend their gil on a casino, more power to the people who run them. I personally don't participate in them, but that doesn't mean other people should be told they cannot. As far as I know, casinos do not violate game rules, as I have heard of absolutely no repercussions handed down on those who run them. I mean, let's be honest, it isn't hard to figure out who is running them.

As for our LS becoming 'known' for casinos, I pretty much think that is a bogus claim. I really very highly doubt that people sit around in Jeuno checking the people running casinos so they can take note of what LS the runner is on. If people have enough time to sit around and do this, and are so anal retentive that they would actually do it, I don't want them on the LS anyways. I think making a 5th rule to ban casino running is ludicrous, because I can see it having absolutely, positively ZERO negative impact on the shell.

If put to a vote, I would definitely vote against a rule to ban casinos.

if you're gonna run a casino, just unequip your pearl for the time being. simple as that. if you get /blisted, i guess it still sort of hurts, but there is no direct connection made with the LS.

I hate Casinos. That being said I will not dictate to anyone whether or not they want to run one. If it is something you want to do, then fine. As for it affecting the LS's reputation, I don't think that is really going to happen. I have come across dozens of casinos and couldn't tell you the LS of any of the people running them, or their names for that matter.

The rules are to ensure people in the shell treat each other with respect and don't annoy the rest of the people in the shell. So long as no one is shouting in the shell for their casino, I don't see why we would try to dictate how they make there money.
