I used the unyielding ring while leveling up PLD, because VIT is a great friend to have when getting pummeled. Plus all your gear gives you a bunch of DEF so getting extra VIT is great.

I just hit 50 pld and its a pretty fun job... Im enjoying it alot... I use the same philosphy i use while tanking as nin/drk cast as much crap on the mob as possible in cycles and i have not lost hate in a long while.... Everyone can pretty much cast do whatever they want and I dont loose hate...
