Vicious Mufflers vs Yigit Gages

Since I recently acquired Vicious Mufflers I decided it was time to do some testing to see exactly how much better (or worse) they were compared to Yigit Gages.

Relevant stats:
Yigit Gages: INT+5 MAB+2
Vicious Mufflers: MAB+5

My standard gear:
HQ Staves (Vulcan's, Aquilo's, Auster's, Terra's, Jupiter's, Neptune's, Pluto's)
Bugard Strap +1
Phantom Tathlum
Wizard's Petasos +1
Enlightened Chain/Uggalepih Pendant
Abyssal Earring (Loquacious Earring)
Moldavite Earring
Igqira Weskit
Yigit Gages/Vicious Mufflers
Tamas Ring
Genius Ring
Rainbow Cape
Sorcerer's Belt/Hyorin Obi (Forest Rope)
Errant Slops
Yigit Crackows

Current Relevant Merits:
Elemental Skill: 6/8
Ice Potency: 3/5
Thunder Potency: 2/5

This testing went on over a couple hours. Toward the end of the testing it became Iceday and so some of the Blizzard results will be higher because of that. Because of this Thunder IV might be more relevant to look at because it's not skewed (as much) based on the day.

Also, after a full rest I had a lightened nuke set that allowed me to get 1 extra nuke off before switching to my nuke set that had less MP (nuke-lite set had 34 INT, 13 MAB vs nuke set having 41 INT, 13 MAB). Most times I would use Fire IV or Aero IV for that first nuke.

All tests were done on Mount Zhayolm puddings.

Ok, now on to the Results:




Conclusion:
Based on my data it seems for my setup that Yigit Gages is the better of the two choices. Being Elvaan I'm already lacking INT and the extra 5 INT from Yigit gives me more consistent nukes as well as higher DMG. Had I been a Taru or Hume or had more base INT Vicious might have won out.

Also, had I more INT from gear or MACC there's a good chance that Vicious could have won. I'm only 6/8 Elemental Magic also. This could have given me that extra MACC that I needed.

I'm not saying that Yigit would be better in all cases or for all races, but for my current setup and situation it seems to be a better choice for my own needs.

It's even possible that by swapping various other gear that Vicious might pull ahead in overall nuking power (say using Elemental Torque and Vicious Mufflers vs Yigit Gages and Enlightened Chain).

Through all this I can definitely say that everything is situational and results will vary from person to person, race to race, gear to gear, and skill to skill. In other words, there is not set 'best' gear, but only what works best for the individual.

Edit: Added Vicious + Elemental Torque test results. Note that most of these were done on Watersday and that I had 3/5 Thunder Potency Merits. Also, note that most of my nukes were at or under 1/2 HP so most of the time I was using Uggy Pendant instead of Elemental Torque. I'll have to test again where I don't use Uggy at all.

Looks pretty good Ik, I would have to agree with your conclusions. If your really want to find our how much the 2 Mab of yigit is doing vs the 5INT, Buy some errant gloves, 5int, and real cheap. (for test purposes only of course :P)

What I found interesting about your parse, is the resist rates you got with the gages on your bliz and thunder 4's. I was never really big into the "Int adds Macc" line of thinking. But your numbers seem to suport it. As far as Magic accuracy on nukes goes I would put blm traits in order of importance like this.

elemental skill > Macc > Int

Get an Elemental Torque Ik, and I bet the mufflers would do better average damage over time vs yigit

Not necessarily. The only nukes he got a large low dmg differences on were Blizz 4 and Thunder 4. He cast 38 less Thunder IV's in Yigit than he did in Vicious and 7 less Blizzard IV's than he did in Vicious. The increased nuke count gives an increased chance of seeing a resist.

To me, this just shows that MAB is weaker than Int given the same stats. The level of damage you guys are talking about would not result in huge percentage increases if one person had more base int than another. It would just seem you want to strive for int first and then MAB where you can't get at least twice the Int as MAB on a piece.

I have a question for my up and coming blm.. U guys mention or gear suggest no focus on elemental magic. So? int>mab>elemental magic? I know the lvl of the mob and magic resist of the mob plays a diff... At 75 is a non issue?

For gods and HNMs you'll want 330+ Elemental Magic Skill. Before then mostly focus on INT > MAB > MACC/Elemental Skill.

I've done some testing that shows were Elemental Skill +7 would give me better results than INT+3. It largely depends on how much INT you have and what lvl the monster is. If just doing xp mobs you should be find if you have high INT. General rule is your +INT should be 1/2 your lvl.

INT = DMG and Magic Accuracy
MAB = DMG (1 MAB = roughly 2.25 INT)
Elemental Skill = Magic Accuracy

There is a diminishing point of return on elemental skill. Like on flans (which is a normal solo mob for 75 blms) you only need "X" amount of skill to not get resisted(most of the time). Once you hit that point, all other skill you equip on top of that does nothing. Thats when you want to stack the Int and Mab to max damage potential.

Weskit+ele torque+Af hands is alot of skill and you should do fine with that setup for when you freshly dinging 75.
