OK it's really boring actually and there's only one origin but...well... blah.
It was hot day in june, the kind of day when you stayed inside with the A.C. blasting you with a perpetually cool breeze, I just got the internet hooked up and was getting ready to play SOCOM 2 when it hit me like a ton of bricks (real ones too), i could finally play the game i had been eagerly awaiting for 2 years. That game my friends was FFXI...
Exactly 1 hour later i was sitting back in the cool comfort of my room, tearing open the packaged HDD, taking care to wipe it off as i was drooling uncontrollably...
2 hours after that and a glass of water to rehydrate myself, i was still sitting there reading the instruction manual, well more like glancing at it as i watched the slow painful process of the game downloading all the patches i needed...
I never left the room lest i miss my first oppurtunity to dive headfirst into my long awaited rpg. Finally after what seemed an eternity i was prompted to create my account, and more importantly my character. Now as my first MMORPG I took painstaking care to choose exactly what i wanted, after all the choices were vast and then there was the name to deal with...
After some coercing from my friend jim i finally stopped messing with the character creator and decided to make my thief a mithra as they are best suited to the job. The most excruciating and crucial part of choosing the right name... 30 minutes later after being denied several of the names i wanted and denying several of the uncouth names Jim wanted me to name her (most of which i dare not mention, such as p!$$flaps, i told Jim to go away after that one) i came upon requieas, modified from requiem which i found later belonged to a japanese lvl 75 NIN. My adventure began...
but didn't get too far, immediately after arriving in bastok i began familiarizing myself with the controls, playing with both a ps2 controller and keyboard, and played with the emotes first, my first action in FFXI was slapping my own face, looking embarrased in front of my TV i scanned the area hoping no one had noticed. A JP player was running by and wasn't all that curious about it till i 2 houred perfect dodge right after that, in the middle of town, my adventure was starting nicely ^^;...
So i began the arduous process of talking to every random npc i came across trying to find some semblance of what to do. After looking much like the noob i was running from npc to npc with that nice big f'ing red ? over my head i located my first bastok quest...
Which led me deep into the zehrun mines O.o scary!
I acclimated myself to the battle system fighting ding bats and whatever other incredibly viscious and tough mobs were in there. After i hit about lvl 3 or so i remmebered i still hadn't found the quest npc i was looking for so i abandoned my bat hunting and finally found what i was looking for. At this point i was feeling pretty good about myself, my adventures were bearing fruit, until i realized i was lost (in like the smallest dungeon in the game). Now i have no sense of direction IRL and as my poor mithra found out, none too much in the game. I stood there motionless cursing myself for not having a map when HE ran by....
Now as a lvl 4 THF and being extremely much a noob, when i saw a lvl 20 WAR run past me i was in awe. He was at the moment one of the highest lvl players i had seen so far. Sitting there lost, in my onion gear no less, with that big damn ? over my head i quick memorized his name and sent a tell as a i watched him turn a corner. Please Help i said, I'm lost. Much to my chagrin Valhallodin quickly reappeared by my side, looking inquisitively at me. Like a lost child i followed him safely to Bastok Mines. God only knows what Val was doing in bastok at that time but he gave me 200 gil to buy my first map and after chatting for a little (In which to told me about his anti-game with women and other fun facts LOL) he hooked me up with a rockhak LS pearl. To this day i'm grateful for his kindness and everyone else, friends and LS members for thiers as well. I told Val i would repay his kindness for helping me, i told him i'd steal him some stuff when i could. The mighty warrior laughed heartily and told me to just take care of myself for now and ask the LS for advice. Well i never did really steal Val any cool stuff but i did repay him with 1 million gil when i left so if you need a loan, hit up val LOL. And thats my story....
