Here's a copy of my post on my other LS forum. Just wanting to let you all know and be warned when dealing with this Mekaru fellow.

Yea, I'm sure most of you have heard that I was taken for 480K today. Well, here's the details complete with screenshots.

Today while doing a few Teleports (first time I'd done so in months) I see a shout "Selling Leaping Boots 100k under {Auction House} price {/tell} Mekaru" and so figure I'll make a quick buck and resell them like I've done in the past. I proceed to tell him that I'm interested and we meet at the guidestone in Lower Jeuno. We set up the trade and it fails the first time (I think I hit escape on accident). We try again and I put the gil in my section and check that the Leaping Boots are in his (they are). I then hit OK and check my inventory to find a pair of Lizard Ledelsens. I /tell Mekaru and he says "woops" "my bad here ya go" but does not trade me the boots. Time passes and he does not trade them to me. I ask a few times with negative results and then proceed to call a GM (first time ever). GM couldn't really do anything, but at least I called. No need to go that far, but you could always inform people in the pt (if you're ever invited to pt with him) what he did and say you'd prefer not to pt with him.

However, last I heard he stopped playing at least for a bit of time due to not being able to find pt's.

That is awful, but not unheard of, as there are many scammers who either have no morals or are just plain too lazy to farm a little or craft a little etc... I had read Ikonics post on AK the day after this happened and most of my LS agreed not to party with Mekaru until he had given the gil back. Sure enough I get a /tell from Mekaru less than a week later, while i was seeking asking to come and party in Boyada Tree. I explained to him that I wouldnt be involved in his party because of the above reason. 10 minutes go by and I get a /tell from another BLM that I know, asking to replace him in a Boyahda Tree party. I asked if it was Mekarus party and it was. I explained to him why I wouldnt and he understood, saying I had not been the first BLM to turn down his request because of that. Then he informed the rest of the party what had happened and they disbanded on Mekaru.

Anyways, sorry about you loss Ikonic. But at least he is getting what he deserves from many people on the Caitsith server.

just as a heads up, and Ikonic, i'm surprised such an educated player like you didn't know this, but when making a purchase like this, ask the selling party to quietly step into qufim with you and place the item in question in his/her bazaar for the asking amount. no amount of deviousness can keep you from getting exactly what you're paying for.

Actually Stri I did and do know that, but what I had was trust. I've traded for other high-gil items in just the same way and not gotten screwed. Hell, I've even sent stuff through Delivery Box to JP players I'd never met and been fine. The simple fact is some people just aren't nice or just.

oh i know it, and it's a shame that after so many positive experiences, this one had to happen. I figured your cinical nature would have saved you from such a fate, but that underlying softy in you lost your 480k. Would be so much easier if everyone was trustworthy, eh?

That would a be a perfect world that will probably never come to be . All we can do I make the best of it.
